John Addington Symonds letters and poem, 1859-1884.

The collection consists of one manuscript poem and seven letters, including: to My dear sir, 26 Feb. 1859, thanking him for a book, praising the clever drawings, and offering a copy of his book on Beauty; four letters to John Chapman, 9 Feb. 1871-3 Oct. 1871, about his own work and about Walt Whitman, and Chapman's Westminster Review; to Dear sirs, Smith, Elder & Co., 15 Jan. 1878, about his book of translations of Michael Angelo's sonnets, with a list of people to whom he would like a copy sent; to Dear sir, W. S. Appleton, 13 July 1884, giving genealogical information about his family. Also, signed manuscript of Four Popular Songs of Italy, undated but circa 1883, apparently an original poem based on Italian influences.
